Decorate Your Porch for Winter

I love the feeling that Christmas gives to our homes, so I wanted to share a few tips on how you can keep the holiday spirit flowing by inviting winter to your front porch long after the holidays are over.

I know we don’t get a lot of winter white in the form of snow here in Jacksonville, but there is no reason we can’t welcome our winter guest to our home with some classic winter décor’.

So how do you decorate your porch for winter and take it from blah to beautiful?

Enjoy the beauty of winter

Simple is best. A simple pinecone wreath, a couple comfy pillows is all that is needed to make your porch an inviting spot to curl up and enjoy the mild temperatures of winter.

Bare trees and dormant plants make the perfect backdrop for pops of color that welcome winter to your home’s curb appeal. Decorating your front porch, particularly after the holidays, can make up for a sad yard during the drab days of winter.

Look to Nature

The most economical way to add beauty to your porch is by using what you find around you. Look for elements in their natural state such as birch tree branches, wood logs, pine cones, bare branches, and potted pines.  I bet if you look around you have everything you need to create this natural beauty that reflects the season right at your fingertips.

Valentines Day isn’t the only month for red

Red adds the perfect pop of color a winter porch. Its bright color will prove to be an eye-catching statement to the otherwise gloomy palette of pale colors winter tends to bring.

Make use of those Christmas lights

Those long days of winter won’t last forever, but in the meantime, we need to expose ourselves to as much light as possible. Use your twinkle lights to brighten your porch for winter. Lights added to potted plants and twisted around columns add an elegant backdrop and will lighten even the brownest and barren entryways.

Enjoy the cooler weather

It’s definitely sweater weather in Jacksonville, and nothing says winter more than a warm sweater and a cup of steaming cocoa.  Make your front porch comfortable and inviting by adding pretty pillows and blankets on porch swings, rockers, and chairs.

Your front porch can quickly be transformed into a warm, cozy and inviting one that invites your guests to come and enjoy the mild winters we love in Jacksonville. A little inspiration goes a long way in decorating your porch for winter and brightening up the gloomy days winter may bring.
