It’s no secret we’re spending more time in our homes these days.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve had more than one of our clients ask us how to make their homes feel cozier.

While many of us are not going shopping or eating out, we have turned to our homes to give us comfort. Our kitchens have become restaurants, and our living rooms have become both home offices and schools. We can only imagine some of you are feeling a bit stir crazy.

After spending a good bit of time on the phone with many of our clients, we are encouraging everyone to use this time to beautify their living spaces. We wanted to take a few minutes and show you how a few small changes can make your home feel more comfortable. It doesn’t take a big budget, and most of the things we are going to share with you will only take a few hours. And yes, you can do most of them all on your own!

Here are a few of our favorite ideas to cozy up your home so you can enjoy it long after this crazy crisis is over.

Rearrange Your Furniture
With so much time spent indoors, it’s time to move your furniture in an arrangement that makes the view outside the focal point. Even if you are making it a point to get outside, you can still feel like the walls are closing in if you’re not letting natural light steal the show. If possible, open the windows for a few hours early in the morning to breathe fresh air into your home.

Give it a Fresh Coat of Paint
One of the cheapest ways to transform a space is with a new color. In a few short hours, you can update a rooms feel just by the color you choose. We suggest bright and uplifting colors to help improve the mood of your home. Pick a color that makes YOU happy! If you like pink, go PINK, if you like red, go RED. Our point here is to create a space that makes you smile. Remember, paint can always be changed so have fun.

Don’t Ignore Small Spaces
Whether you live in an apartment or a small home, now is the time to rethink how you use your space and open up overcrowded areas. Even if you don’t have ample space, there are ways to create an illusion of space just by moving things around a bit.

Now is the time to get rid of or store those items that are taking up space. The extra dresser you hardly use, or the chair no one sits in, move them out to open up floor space. Clear all rarely used items from the counters and store away collections of knickknacks that serve no purpose. Once you lighten your home’s load, your area will instantly feel bigger and more open.

Add Something New
If you can afford it, take this time to support an online artist. Etsy is filled with homemade products and one of a kind artwork that would add some pretty touches to your home. In a time where anxiety is high, bring something new into your home that brings you joy and soothes you.

Use your home as your private refuge and find a way to add joy and peace to your surroundings.
