Chase the winter blues out of your home…
After the Christmas decorations are taken down, our homes can feel sad and lonely. The magical, twinkling lights of Christmas make our homes feel so warm and cozy. Once we put them away for the season, it can throw us straight into a song of the winter blues. But how about we turn those winter blues into decor that will keep us feeling all the feels.
Blue is such a warm color. There are so many shades, from the deep midnight blues to the energetic turquoise blues. It doesn’t really matter the shade as long as you love it!
Here is a list of ways to incorporate those “winter blues” into your home that will get you through the rest of the season:
- Throw Pillows – An easy way to add some color and doll up your couch is to add a couple new pillows. You can go as casual or as fancy as you desire with your choice of fabric.
- Want something fun and playful? Find a cushion with snowflakes on it!
- Want something casual and simple? Find a striped pillow ticking fabric.
- Want something elegant? Find a navy crushed velvet.
- Whatever you choose, every time you look at your couch, you will smile.
- Rugs – A new rug doesn’t just feel wonderful to your feet; it feels good to your eyes. Blue is a wonderful accent color, especially against the warmth of a wooden floor.
- Blankets/Throws – Nothing says comfort like a blanket tossed over the back of an armchair, across the foot of your bed, or even better yet, covering you with the fireplace crackling. From chunky, hand-knitted throws to Grandma’s quilt…you can’t go wrong with a blanket.
- Glass Vase – There’s nothing more beautiful than an antique crackled glass vase (or its Hobby Lobby copycat) in a vibrant shade of blue with white winter flowers and greenery reminding us that spring is coming!
- Blue Willow Plates – Looking for wall art that is different than the norm? Try hanging a collection of Blue Willow china on your wall for a statement that matches both country and formal settings.
- Accent Wall – If you feel super adventurous, pick a wall, choose a blue and get busy painting! If you don’t want to paint and have the extra cash, there are beautiful murals that you can purchase to cover your wall with. One accent wall can make your room feel totally new and fresh and is an instant pick me up each time you enter.
- Accent Furniture – Do you have nightstands that need a little love? A dresser? A china buffet? Maybe you have a spot in your home that is just missing that “something,” and you find it secondhand, but it needs some love. Paint it! Pick a beautiful shade of blue, have fun with chalk paint, and bring life back to these pieces.
These are just a few ways to bring those winter blues into your home.
You will find yourself pleasantly surprised at how only a few simple changes and well-placed pieces breathe new life into your home.
