Drumroll, please! Pantone Inc., the global color authority, announced that Marsala, a naturally robust and earthy wine red, as the Color of the Year for 2015.  Named after a wine that shares the same name, Marsala is intentioned to incorporate “the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” according to Pantone.

What’s great about this color is that it’s muted enough to be considered a neutral, which means there’s no need to throw out everything in your home in order to bring Marsala in.  Add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich and welcoming hue in accent pieces, accessories, and paint. Marsala is an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered living room furniture.

Since Marsala is a warm, earthy, burgundy tone it looks beautiful when paired with soft blues, greens and turquoise accents which have been so popular in home decor. Look at this beautiful rug. What do you think of this plush, turquoise, velvet sofa?  As you can see, you only need a touch of Marsala accents to bring this trend into your home. If you don’t have soft blues or greens in your home, Marsala also looks great with warm browns and grays.
