Some 2016 Interior Design Trends

Wondering what’s  emerging in the world of 2016 interior design trends? It’s all about that bling.  Shine, metals, glass tiles, pearlized finishes, 3-D styles are all big in 2016. Don’t be surprised to see the following featured in stores, TV design shows, model homes, and design magazines:

New for 2016 is the emphasis on white.  Benjamin Moore has declared Simply White as its 2016 Color of the Year. Sherwin-Williams’ response to white is Alabaster. Why white, you ask?  White is simple, yet sophisticated, and allows your furnishings to take center stage. White allows us to add more bling to a room.   White sheets and towels are the most popular because they present a very clean look.  The trick to making white work in your home is to use lots of different textures in your furnishings – wood, glass, metal, ceramic, wool. Are you ready to paint your walls white?

Next year will showcase lots of pearlized finishes in furniture. Shiny inlaids will present themselves in tables, lamps, trays, etc.

Metals will remain big – especially gold. You‘ll see it paired with white so it doesn’t appear dated. Brass and copper will also come center stage.  Look for copper in kitchen fixtures.

Geometric patterns in tile will be prevalent. Likewise, you ‘ll see more 3-dimensional tiles for added interest. Notice the bling in this bathroom!

The use of minerals like chunks of quartz will grace tabletops in lamps, candlesticks, and other decorative accents.

Scalloped details will be featured in furnishings, both traditional and modern.  Did your childhood bedroom dresser have scalloped edges at the bottom?

Another interior design trend for 2016 making a bold statement – chain links – which adds a more sophisticated look to the industrial design style.  You will see it in lamps, coffee tables, lighting fixtures, bookends and other accessories.

Which is your favorite newcomer to the 2016 interior design trends? Implementing decorating trends in your décor can be a fun experience. Keep in mind that trendy items can go out of style just as quickly as they appeared. When purchasing expensive furnishings or making costly renovations to your home, make sure that your changes will stand the test of time.
