It seems that bachelors can sometimes be a bit intimidated when it comes to decorating their home. We have come up with 5 ways to take the stress out of shopping and designing the interior of your manly space.
1. “I don’t know what my style is.” Don’t get hung up on a particular look. Especially in today’s trends, mixing and matching is perfectly fine. Look through home magazines or visit models to see what you like. Find one thing that you’d like to see in your space and revolve the rest of the room around that. Let’s take a wild guess for the living room- it’s either going to be the sofa or the T.V. For your bedroom- is there a bed or a comforter you think is really cool? Run with it!
2. “Where do I begin?” Always begin with the large pieces in the home. Finding furniture that fits your space and lifestyle well is always number one. Think about what size and shape furniture will work best in the room. Don’t buy a sofa or bed that is too large for the space. Do bring in room measurements and your sales person can point you in the right direction.
3. Now this is really where guys get hung up. What’s next? Well you have an inspiration and you have furniture so now it’s time to start thinking about the smaller things in the room. Plants, real or fake, are a great addition to any room. Art work is also very important to think about at this time. Keep in mind your vision of your room and find some great pictures that you like to look at.
4. Now it’s time to think about the little things that pull a room together. Lamps, pillows, rugs, towels are all things to be taken care of in this stage. These are great things to give your room real personality. Choose an accent color that’s maybe in your artwork, bedding or furniture. Now bring this color out in the small things in your room. This is a great place to stay budget friendly in case you grow tired of this accent color. If you’re having trouble with choosing lamps- keep it simple!
5. This is where we usually loose guys attention pretty quick. Accessories, window treatments and foo-foo items are last but still important to a room. You have a lot of flexibility with these items because you can stay neutral, use your accent color or even bring in a new color for these. If you feel a bit lost- go with a brown, black or white. They match everything.
