Creating That Cozy Fall Home Look

Fall is officially here and it’s time to get those pumpkins, gourds, bittersweet stems, and strands of leaves out to create a cozy fall home look.  What other things can you do to bring the warmth and comfort of fall into your home?

Paint an accent wall in your family room a warm fall color. Repeat the color of the accent wall in your accessories to create a cohesive look.  Pillows, throws, rugs, vases, and artwork are just a few of the items that could reflect that same hue.

Change out your lampshades for ones that have fall colors like a warm tan, a rich plum, or earthy green or brown. If you don’t want to purchase new lampshades, think about hot gluing or fabric gluing some decorative trim or a graphic to the shades in those hues.

Paint the back of your bookcases for a beautiful fall transformation.  Do this easily by purchasing some foam core at a local craft store.  Cut the foam core to match the back sections of your bookcase. Paint one side of the foam core a fall color and the other side a spring color so you can easily reverse them as the seasons change.

Buy inexpensive fabric in fall colors and cover some books that you can leave out on various accent tables or include in fall vignettes.

Bring back your heavier bedding in those warmer fall hues. Even in Northeast Florida, we sometimes feel a chill in the air.  Snuggling up under a sheet and warm blanket will give you a restful night’s sleep.

Bring that woodsy outdoor smell into your home.  Create a pumpkin candle holder to use as a table centerpiece or as part of a grouping of seasonal accessories. Cut the stem out of the pumpkin. Trace the bottom of a 6” pillar candle on top of the pumpkin with black magic market.  Cut out the traced section with a sharp knife and insert your candle.  Wrap some bittersweet stems, and a few berries at the base of the pumpkin.  Use a cinnamon or woodsy- scented candle to create that inviting fall mood inside your home.

Place a fall-themed wreath on your exterior door and some pumpkins and colorful mums on your front porch.  Let everyone in your neighborhood know that you love fall!
