Ways to Get That Luxe Hotel-Look in Your Bedroom

One of the delights of going away on vacation is staying in a nice hotel.  Don’t you just love the way they decorate the bedroom to make you feel relaxed? Wouldn’t you love to get that luxe hotel-look in your bedroom so you wouldn’t have to hop on a plane to enjoy it?  What do those hoteliers do to make you feel like you never want to leave?

Make sure you have a comfortable bed.

Make sure your mattress is comfortable. If it’s over 10-years old or you are waking up tired and achy every morning, consider replacing it. Before purchasing, try the mattress out in the store to see whether you prefer a soft or firm one.

Go for the premium sheets.

Opt for crisp, white percale sheets with a thread count of 400 or more and you’ll have a nice silky feel to your sheets. Many major hotel brands sell the brand of sheets they use in their hotels. If you’ve fallen in love with the bed linens in a fine hotel, chances are you can purchase them online.

Hotels use three-bed sheets.  First, they put on the fitted sheet.  Over that goes one fitted sheet. Next, comes a blanket, and then another flat sheet on top of the blanket.

Add European pillows to your bed.

European pillows are the large, square pillows that usually rest against the headboard. They offer a great visual impact and are very functional, too. You can use them to prop yourself up in bed to watch TV or read a book. They do an amazing job of adding a luxurious touch to a bed. For a queen-sized bed, you want two European pillows, two sleeping pillows, and one or two decorative pillows. A king-sized bed calls for three European pillows, 2 king-sized or 3 queen-sized pillows and two decorative pillows.

Select a lightweight comforter.

You can either select a solid color or patterned print.

Select a paint color that will relax you.

Pick a relaxing paint color that will coordinate with your comforter. Generally, blues and blue-greens are soothing colors. Try an accent color on the wall behind the bed to make it the focal point of the room.

Add a bedside table with storage to both sides of the bed.

It’s nice to have some storage next to your bed for items you may want to access while in that room such as your favorite lotions or hand creams. You can also place your reading book on top of the table when you are ready to sleep.

Add some warm lighting.

Consider adding a sconce lighting fixture to the wall on each side of the bed. It will pull the room together visually. Try lower wattage or light pink light bulbs for a softer look.  In addition, try recessed lighting in the ceiling for your general lighting needs.

Include room-darkening window treatments.

Most hotels have drapery which slides across on a drapery rod in case you want to nap during the day.  Give yourself that option as well.
