In a few weeks, it will be 2020, and many of our clients are already thinking about changing things up a bit with a decorating project.
Is a new design project on your radar? If so, we are sharing six things every well-designed room should have to get you started.
Whether you’re starting a new remodeling project or just sprucing up your décor, it can be a challenge to know where to start and what to add to pull a room together.
Of course, we can layout a decorating plan for you and even come and put it all together, but we like our clients to take an active role in making their spaces look beautiful if they so choose. So to start off the New Year, we encourage you to put your DIY hat on and give it a whirl.
If you’re up for it, decorating your home can be fun.
From shopping for new items to pulling it all together it can be gratifying and beautiful if you add these six things.
Conversation Lighting
You know that one piece that when people walk into your home they say, “Wow, where did you get that?” Every home should have at least one statement lighting source. A beautiful chandelier, a sculptural table lamp, or even a pretty floor lamp. Something that gives the room a WOW factor.
History
Even the newest homes need to have something old. A vintage piece adds character to a room better than any new piece of art can do. It can consist of fabric, antique furniture, or artwork.
Something to Read
In an age where everything is digital, even books, the decorative element a stack of books can add to a room is vital in making it feel welcoming. Added to bookshelves, on the coffee table, and even as small vignettes, they are a beautiful addition to any room.
Window Dressing
Every window needs a little attention, and it doesn’t have to be much. Whether its drapes, blinds or shutters or even a simple valance, each window needs to take center stage in a room. There are an array of options to choose from, depending on the amount of privacy you require.
Extra Seating
You wouldn’t think a bench or an ottoman would be essential pieces of furniture, but they are. They can serve as additional seating or hidden storage to keep a room’s clutter under control.
Your Personality
Every home needs to be a reflection of YOU. Anyone can go to a big box store and get framed art; however, what we like to see is artwork that is unique to your home. You don’t need to be an artist to add a part of you to a room. It can be framed photos, something made by a loved one, or a collage of your favorite things.
